Livet Mellem Husene
The first version of Life Between Buildings, published by the Danish Architectural Press in 1971, was very much a protest against the functionalist principles for planning cities and residential areas that prevailed during that period. The book carried an appeal to show concern for the people who were to move between buildings, and it urged an understanding of the subtle, almost indefinable - but definite - qualities, that have always been associated with the interaction of people in public space - Life between buildings as a dimension of architecture that needs to be treated carefully. More than 50 years later, many architectural trends and ideologies have passed but Life Between Buildings remains one of the most widely read and respected texts on the subject of urban planning as the book provides a framework for understanding the importance of human-centered design and creating liveable, sustainable cities. Now in its 8th edition, with a revised cover by Jan Gehl.
