Klein

The architect Vilhelm Klein (1835-1913) was one of the leading and most controversial figures of his time. He designed architectural landmarks such as the Museum of Arts and Crafts, now known as Tivoli Palace, the children's drawing school on H.C. Andersen's Boulevard and the brewery and administration building for Carlsberg. Klein was also one of the most important Danish architectural theorists and cultural debaters of the 19th century. This publication is a historical release of three previously unpublished manuscripts by Klein: Architektportraiter, Blade af Vrøvlets Historie, and To Tidsaldre. The manuscripts were written as critical contributions to the contemporary architectural debate and provide an entertaining as well as concise picture of the most important architectural trends of the time. The publication shows that much of the good thought of historicism is still surprisingly active in today's architecture. The book is illustrated with historical drawings, watercolours, paintings and photographs.
