Gellerup

Gellerup tells the story of one of the most ambitious and controversial urban development projects in Danish history. Following the development from the early plans for Gellerup, taking shape in the 1950s, right up to the present day, when the district has become a symbol of the housing challenges that followed in the wake of the planning of the time. Today, the district is undergoing a major transformation and a whole new narrative of Aarhus is taking shape. Gellerup can be used as a prism to understand Danish architectural and housing policy. Providing an in-depth examination of the architectural and urban visions that shaped Gellerup, and how those visions have changed over time, the book also looks at the events and ideas that have led to the present-day perception of the area, including the problems and potentials it faces today.
